ALCOHOLICS Anonymous Limerick Areas (AA) is holding its 32nd annual convention in Limerick Strand Hotel, Ennis Road from Friday February 3 to Sunday 6. The purpose of this convention is to carry the message of recovery to alcoholics who are members and to those who still suffer. It also gives members of the fellowship an opportunity to share their combined experiences, to renew old acquaintance and to make new ones. The theme of this year’s convention is gratitude.

Official opening takes place in the hotel on Friday 3, 8.30pm followed by an open AA meeting. There will be another open public meeting on Sunday 5 at 12.30pm in the Cityview Suite on the 6th floor of Limerick Strand Hotel.
Also invited are professionals such as doctors, counsellors and anyone who in the course of their employment may come into contact with or have to deal with someone with an alcohol problem.
Alcoholics Anonymous would like to emphasise its message of hope and recovery. AA suggests that the unhappiest person in the world is the alcoholic who has an insistent yearning to enjoy life as he or she once knew it, but cannot picture life without alcohol. That person has a heartbreaking obsession that by some miracle of control he will be able to do so.
The primary purpose of AA members is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. It is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other for this primary purpose. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.
